英语当中有一个词专门描述“意识流”一样的句子，被称之为“Run-on sentences”，中文意思是“粘连句”。这类句子较多出现在我们做freewriting练习的时候，因为我们比较关注内心思路的记录，而很少关心语法，句式，词汇等的用法，所以就总会出现粘连句。
粘连句，从大的方面说是不注意段落的内部结构，想到哪就说哪；从小的方面说是不注意句子与句子之间的语法关系。总之，意识流的句子缺少必要的连词，于是两个句子或更多的句子直接地放在一起。这在英语中是不允许的，因为粘连句说到底是“不成章法”、“胡写一气”的病句。
我们来看几个粘连句：
The bus stopped suddenly I spilled coffee all over my shirt.Mario told everyone in the room to be quiet his favorite show was on.Some factories often produce noise makes people find it hard to focus on study.There are numerous advantages for industries and businesses are built in large cities.There are more and more people believe using animals is wrong.
在如上的五个句子里面，意思是很完整很流畅的，只是不符合英语语法，当然很多时候跟中文思维有极大的关系。所以，我们需要对这样的粘连句进行更改。我们可以把它们改成简单句或并列句，或处理成复合句。总之只要符合基本的句法结构，就可以。至于简单句、并列句还是复合句，到底哪一个更好，这个不绝对。要看文章发展，择优使用。
方法一：改为复合句
1、Because the bus stopped suddenly, I spilled coffee all over my shirt. (原因状语从句)
2、Mario told everyone in the room to be quiet, because his favorite show was on. (状语从句)
3、Some factories often produce noise which makes people find it hard to focus on study.（定语从句）
4、There are numerous advantages for industries and businesses, if they are built in large cities. (条件状语从句)
5、More and more people believe that using animals is wrong.（宾语从句）
方法二：改为并列句
1、The bus stopped suddenly, so I spilled coffee all over my shirt. (因果并列句)
3、Some factories often produce noise and the noise makes people find it hard to focus on study.
方法三：处理成独立的简单句
1、The bus stopped suddenly. I spilled coffee all over my shirt.
2、Mario told everyone in the room to be quiet. His favorite show was on.
练习
将如下短文中的粘连句改成正确的句子：
（1）We must protect animals because animals are lovely, they are our friends, just imagine what our life would be without animals. I like many animals such as dogs, cats and even lovely pigs. Dogs can help us a lot. When I was a child, my family kept a dog, it is not only a dog, but also a member of our family. Sometimes, we can see the dog can help a blind man or lady to cross the street. They are really helpful. Unluckily, people sometimes kill animals, kill our friends, they will be hurt too, they will fell terrible and afraid, some even have tears in their eyes. They do not want to die too. I think people should not kill animals. Some laws should be set up.
（2）My worst experience of the week was going home for lunch, rather than eating at work. My children didn’t know I was coming, they had used most of the bread. All I had to make a sandwich with were two thin, crumpled pieces of crust. I sat there eating my tattered sandwich and trying to relax, then the telephone rang. It was for my daughter, who was in the bathroom, she called down to me that I should get the person’s name and number. As soon as I sat down again, someone knocked on the door, it was a neatly dressed couple with bright eyes who wanted to talk with me about a higher power in life. I politely got rid of them and went back to finish lunch. I thought I would relax over my coffee I had to break up a fight between my two young sons about which television channel to watch. As a last bit of frustration, my daughter came downstairs and asked me to drive her over to a friend’s home before I went back to work.
上面两段文字既有标点符号的问题，又有连词使用的问题。总之从意思上来说还挺好，但从语法上来说一塌糊涂。需要我们动脑筋，改成“结构上准确”的句子。如果能力可以，符合语法之后，再考虑一下上下句以及整个段落结构的逻辑问题。
